Voting Yes for Brookline will:

  1. Modernize Brookline’s public schools and other infrastructure.
  2. Accelerate Brookline’s sustainability and planning efforts.
  3. Support and expand Town services that we all rely on.

Vote Yes to approve the Pierce School debt exclusion, unlocking tens of millions of dollars of state matching funds.

  • Pierce is poorly designed for learning with 240+ students learning in a single open space filled with ineffective classrooms without walls.
  • Pierce is overcrowded with around 200 more students than originally designed. This leads to students learning in hallways and closets, students forced to walk through busy classrooms to reach their own classroom, and 10:15 AM lunch periods.
  • The physical building violates safety and accessibility standards.  Electrical and technology-related wiring runs along pipes, railings, and across the floor.Students with physical limitations often cannot go to recess and may be reassigned to other schools.
  • Because of the quantity and severity of the concrete building’s defects, the taxpayer cost of simply renovating Pierce to be within code is not a significant savings compared with completely renovating the building.

Vote Yes to approve Brookline’s operating override, maintaining and expanding critical services across Town departments.

  • Brookline has a structural operating budget deficit in which our Town expenses grow faster each year than our Town revenues, given legal limits imposed by a Reagan-era state law called Proposition 2½.
  • Because of Proposition 2½, the Town will have to make devastating cuts to town and school services if the override fails.
  • As currently proposed, passing the override will increase spending on school maintenance projects townwide, and expand the planning department’s capacity to facilitate a comprehensive Town plan.

The Yes for Brookline campaign team is a group of volunteers committed to passing both Yes For Brookline ballot questions. This team includes past, present, and future Pierce parents and grandparents, non-Pierce PSB parents, elected officials, and residents from neighborhoods across town.
